Salvatori
- Lost Stones

2021

The starting point for this 2019 project was the determination to create a new destiny for abandoned or unloved stone that had perhaps lost its metaphorical lustre or become cracked or damaged over the years. Gabriele Salvatori and Piero Lissoni embarked on a series of visits to storehouses and yards scattered all over Italy and discovered treasure troves of inestimable historic value, including the very stone used for Paris’s Notre Dame cathedral and marble left over from Mies Van Der Rohe’s famous Barcelona Pavilion. Back at the Salvatori workshop in Northern Tuscany, artisans filled every fracture, fissure or imperfection with a gold-coloured resin, a process that requires an incredible level of precision and epitomises true craftsmanship.
