Fields of intervention: architecture, interior design, landscape design
The Maple Villas project comprises two private residences nestled within the natural landscape of Montauk Bay, New York. The site’s topography, defined by a continuous slope immersed in dense vegetation, shaped both the architectural approach and the spatial organization of the villas.
The design language is characterized by a composition of interlocking and overlapping volumes in timber and lime plaster, generating a sequence of voids, terraces, and cantilevers that create fluid transitions between interior and exterior spaces.
The two villas differ in their programmatic strategies, each maximizing visual engagement with the bay: one places the living areas on the garden level and the sleeping quarters above, while the other inverts this arrangement, situating the main living spaces on the upper floor with a large terrace overlooking the landscape.
The continuity of materials and finishes, extending seamlessly from indoor to outdoor surfaces, produces a unified architectural expression that blurs the threshold between the built environment and nature. Natural tones, tactile textures, and expansive glazing emphasize transparency and connection, framing the landscape as an essential component of the architectural experience.
