Teatro Nazionale
- Milan

2005 - 2009
Fields of intervention: architecture, interior design

With the main façade dating from 1922 and the building itself being listed as a historical monument, the old theatre was completely renovated while the interior was updated with the latest technology. The exterior of the Teatro Nazionale was expanded on both sides in order to house technical facilities and office spaces. In addition, the stage tower at the back of the building was raised an additional five meters. These newly constructed elements are marked by lines on the exterior, thus continuing the structure of the historical main building. An advertising banner and led displays were added on the right to provide visitors with information about current productions, just like the large musical theatres in New York's Times Square.
While the exterior façade is based on the historical appearance of the building, the interior was completely redesigned and renovated by Piero Lissoni and equipped with state of the art technology.
